BS RADIOLOGY
AIMS
Radiology is the field of Allied Health Sciences which uses X rays, gamma rays, and other forms of ionizing radiation in the treatment of diseases. In more recent years, radiology has come to embrace diagnosis by a method of organ scanning with the use of radioactive isotopes and nonionizing radiations, such as ultrasound and radiofrequency waves. Similarly, the scope of radiotherapy has extended to include, in the treatment of cancer, such agents as hormones and chemotherapeutic drugs.
The significance of Radiology can be understood from the disease management, with a wide choice of tools and techniques available for the detection, staging and treatment. Diagnostic imaging provides detailed information about structural or disease related changes. Early diagnosis saves lives. Without diagnosis there can be no treatment, there can be no cure.
